BASIC OUTLINE OF THE ARTISAN FARMS PRODUCT CODES initial version – simple v1.0 ; 

  1.  SIX DIGIT PRODUCT CODES >> first three digits are Product Items and next three digits are – Product Classifications.

  2. FIRST THREE DIGITS  >>  Product Items >> FIRST THREE DIGITS >> Product codes as outlined Canada Beef Inc. - Canadian Beef and Veal Handbook.

  3. LAST THREE DIGITS >>  Product Classifications >> LAST THREE DIGITS >>  Beef – 100 ;  Veal – 200 ,  Lamb – 300 ,  Pork – 400 ,  Bison – 500 ;  Wild Game – 600 ;   Poultry – 700 ……..

     ….   THEN if the Product Item has Versions of a, b, c, d, e as CBI Classifications are offered then >  - 0 ,  a – 1 , b – 2, c – 3, d – 4, e – 5.)  

  4. Branding >> Ontario, Traditionally Raised - we will just write on box AND/OR invoice if Ontario from Horizon/Highland/Cargill/West Grey, or Angus if from Angus source, or Waygu, or RWA, or Ontario Corn Fed or SVB or Grass Fed … lets just keep it simple to start ..  ALL THE SAME PRODUCT codes for the first year or two of Operations ;   examples -- 

109105 – Beef Rib Primal,
180100 – Beef Striploin,
190101 – Beef Tenderloin – Side Muscle Off    ( 190a) 
190201 – Veal Tenderloin – Side Muscle Off  ( 190a)

  1. Product Items >>   ( refer to the Canadian Beef and Veal Handbook
    1. Beef Carcass - 101 Half, 102 Front qtr, & 155 Rear quarter then the Primal and Sub Primals are allocated from this point. 

    2. Beef Primals & SubPrimals  – i) FRONT - 109 Rib, 107 Beef Rib, 113 Chuck, 117 Shank, 118 Brisket, 134 Bones ;  ii) REAR – 158 Round, 172 Loin, 180 Strip, 184 Top Butt, 190 Tenders & 193 Flank Steak.

    3. Beef Portion Control Cuts  – 1100 Cube Steak, 1103 Rib Steak, 1114 Chuck steak, 1123 Short Rib, 1136 Beef Patties, 135 Beef Diced, 1173 Prtrhouse Steak, 1180 Strip Steak

    4. Beef Boneless Trim (BNLS TRIM) – 095 - 95% Lean, 090 - 90% Lean, 085 - 85% Lean, 065 - 65% Lean, 060 - 60% Lean, & 050 - 50% Lean.

    5. Beef Variety Meats – 1700 Face mask, 1703 cheek meat, 1710 tongue, 1724 liver, 1751 testicles, 1765 hanging tender. 

  2. Product Classifications >>

BEEF  – 100

  1. 100 – BEEF, (example – 101100 is ABF half, 102100 is a front quarter, & 155100 is rear half.) 

VEAL   – 200

  1. 200 – VEAL , (example – 101200 is ABF half, 102200 is a front quarter, & 155200 is rear half.) 

LAMB – 300

  1. 300 – ABF beef, (example – 101300 is ABF half, 102300 is a front quarter, & 155300 is rear half.) 

PORK  – 400

  1. 400 – PORK, (example – 101400 is ABF half, 102400 is a front quarter, & 155400 is rear half)

BISON  – 500

  1. 500 – BISON, (example – 101500 is ABF half, 102500 is a front quarter, & 155500 is rear half)

WILD GAME  – 600

  1. 500 – WILD GAME (example – 101600 is ABF half, 102600 is a front quarter, & 155600 is rear half)

POULTRY  – 700

  1. 500 – Organic beef, (example – 101700 is ABF half, 102700 is a front quarter, & 155700 is rear half)
